First things first. So pleased that I have a full quart of milk from this morning, for me, i.e. not counting strip milk or babies' milk. I am going to make yogurt with it, the first 100 percent from my own girls. :-)
Last year, I posted a milking video that was quite good that followed through after milking to full milk care. I've been searching for it and cannot find it (and disappointed I did not save it!). I want to forward the link to a new goat owner. This is the video where I learned how to properly use my filter - I'm sure some of you remember that gem and will chuckle again about it.<g>
I've been counting on Capri being my good milker but she is going to have to start letting me have more if she is. I say letting me have more because when I release her that little black buckling gets a really full tummy! Just under three cups of that quart was from Summer! And Summer is much easier to milk; her teats are bigger and facing forward, and her udder is bigger so teats are more accessible. Crazy is definitely going to be her boyfriend at next breeding; her does will be unbelievably good milkers. I sure wish that little black buckling was a doe; I love him so. I could keep him if he were wethered but, with his bloodlines and king-of-the-world attitude, it would be a crime for not become a herd sire. Even if I lived on a farm, I could not keep him as he is related to everyone here.
Does anyone have the link to that video? I especially want it for the milk care part. A friend's daughter asked me to come and see if she is doing everything right. That is so funny considering a year ago I knew nothing! She is doing well as far as the milking itself, far better than I did that early, but she needs better milk-handling skills (washing udder, filtering, cooling, etc.) especially since she has two pre-school children who are drinking the milk and a baby who will be soon. I think the video will re-enforce what I said.

Yes, it is. The type you are describing is what we had for the milk cow way back in the age of dinosaurs, much larger of course. I sort of expected this one to be like that which is why I didn't know how to use it in the beginning - I expected something to hold in the filter not even considering it went on the bottom and was held in place by the disk. I truly felt silly when I realized how it was supposed to be. The saving grace on that was that I was not the only one who did what I did; a friend in our area did it and someone here did it as well.
Yep, I have seen this one before! Might have been when you posted it! So is that the type strainer you have... screws on the bottom? Mine you put the filter in and then a ring goes in it to hold the filter in place!

Thrilled about your quart! I apparently did not see the video but do remember the filter problem. hehe! What was that again? Did you have the one with the ring and were putting it in the strainer first and then the filter instead of the other way around? Is that right?
