miscarriage?

bred a doe on Nov 9th.  heat behavior on the 27th.  ran out of fenced area to edge of field, bleating.  next day noticed bloody tinged tail hair on edges.  nothing coming from vagina, however.  still fence watching, appetite slight, calling out.  today, still fence watching, nothing further happening on her tail, has kept tail down - so far.  every time she has come in heat, she has a mucous string, but NOT this time.

opinions?  does anyone think she miscarried?  no evidence of anything in the barn, just the stuff on the edge of her tail fur.

  • today, it wasnt raining (yay!!) and I let them roam a bit. The first time in awhile I have seen them rearing up and butting heads with each other. Yay!! They acted like goats- I tried to get them to come back to the barn and they refused! yay, acting like goats. ^^ I think the weather depresses them like it does me. lol. (not funny)
  • No, she's probably fine. I don't think I've ever heard of a goat having trouble with a miscarriage.

  • Iam not going to try to breed her again until she has a "recognizable" heat.
  • I am not going to try to breed her again, until she has another recognizable heat.

she got Bo-Se mid May this year. the browse is little to none. oak leaves, blackberry which they dont care to eat - seldom and only in July and August. oak bark - they have been getting good hay and I just in the last 2 weeks stopped giving them grain, well until we had our 20 something temps at night - then i gave them 1/2 c. every couple of days for bout a week. when they do have access to the field, there is browse on the edge - they wont even go out there. they would rather go to the chicken coop and see if they can get inside to the layer pellets. I am not a willing participate in that - I dont want them in there with the chickens/poop. -( So, do you think she is in heat - or just hormonal?

  • If she lost a pregnancy at two or three weeks, the most you would see is a little blood. Usually you don't even see that much. I feel your pain. We went through this four or five years ago. Sounds like you have copper covered. I forgot what you've done for selenium. Did you give BoSe? If so, when? The other possibility is some type of poisoning. That's what one vet told me when I had goats aborting left and right. I think nutritional deficiencies are much more probably, however, when the goats live in a controlled environment.
