I have a fabulous nd buck. He was a 4H goat so is very.sweet and halter trained and what not. I was considering purchasing mini nubian does for him next year. Any thoughts? They are more easy for me to find than nd does, or should I just hold out for nd does. I want to meet my.families dairy needs. We will probablt butcher our own wethers, so slaughtering costs dont need to be factored in. thanks for opinions.
Amber
P.s I am aware that mini nubians arent officially a recognized breed yet

I did get in touch with joyful hearts actually, but dent buy from them because the doe that I wanted had already been sold. I did however purchase two ND does, an Angora, and la mancha since posting this discussion lol

I am quite far from you in the low deserts of southern california. I have been finding older does, like 5 and up, for sale on craigs list and im okay with not getting a kid or doeling (especially if they are already trained =) )

Oh! You are ansolutley right, the 'backbreeding'(is that even a word, lol) never even crossed my mind. Good call. Thanks! br/> Deborah Niemann-Boehle said:
There are a few things to consider (milk, size, appearance, personality), and a lot of it comes down to personal preference. Beyond that, if you cross a mini with a ND, you're back to F1 kids, which is first generation and not worth as much as an F2 or F3, etc, especially if you don't get the ears. Minis are registered with two different registries, so they are recognized -- just not by ADGA or AGS.
