Mice in my goat barn

I have recently realized that I have a mouse population growing in my barn....  I have been using live traps baited with feed and have caught many that way.  Seems like the population is growing quickly now.  I do not want to use poison because I am afraid someone other than the mice might get some.  Is there a better solution?  I do not have a cat in the barn because I have some Bantum chickens and worry that the cat would kill them. I really want the mice gone before I get my baby goats....

We have barn cats and they don't bother the chickens.  They just look at them.  The cats keep all the mice away and I don't have to worry about seeing any.

  • We get mice in our house from time to time. Don't really know how or why, but my fat cat takes care of them... She doesn't eat them but occasionally leaves them for us to find. A friend of a friend who studies cats extensively said that its like they want to leave you a present as a thank you for taking care of them.
  • We have barn cats. Although they kill mice, rats, squirrels, and rabbits, they leave our chickens alone. It probably helps that they've all been here since they were kittens.
  • I have mice too, but the cats keep them down population wise. I have bantam cross hens, and my cats don't bother them. (well, they like to pretend to chase them, but the chickens actually steal dead mice from them!! lol) My cats weren't raised around chickens, but they don't try to kill them either... I wonder if you got a kitten, and raised it "with" your chickens, if that would help to? I don't the answer...  but I do know my cats are AMAZING at mouse control. :) Good luck!!
