Little Goats

Just thought I would share that my brother and his family, who live in Africa, was inspired by my little goats.  They were just here visiting for 6 weeks and saw our goats.  They said they have goats running around all over the place where they live, but no one milks them.  Their goats look just like mine.  (btw, they are not in Nigeria)  I am hoping that one day my two daughters and I can go over there and teach the Africans how to develop a herd of dairy goats and make products from the milk.  Sounds like fun, doesn't it?

  • They mostly use them for meat.  I don't know why they don't milk them.  They don't eat chicken eggs either, just eat the chickens.   They are not at all modernized where he is.  He lives in a village in West Africa where they all draw water from a well and live in simple homes.  They do all of their cooking over an outdoor fire.  I think they just need to see the value of it, to be taught how to increase the milk supply and what can be done with it.

That is very interesting why they are called Nigerian goats!  Maybe they are all over Africa???

  • That does sound like fun! I wonder why they don't milk the goats where he lives. Have they become too modernized like Americans?

I'm not entirely sure how NDs came to be identified with Nigeria, but they are not just from there. Someone from Africa once saw my goats and immediately said they were from West Africa.
