Out of wormer and needed my husband to pick up some for us to do the goats that need it this weekend. He bought Ivomec (ivermectin) Injection for cattle/swine 1% sterile solution  that is in a 50ml bottler by Merial. Normally we use Safeguard, they were out.

Is this wormer safe to use on my does/kids/buck/wether if they need it? Do I still do 2x's the dose orally? (1ml/cc for 50lbs)

Withdrawal time?

Any concerns I should know using it?

  • According to Jeffers, it says in large red letters : NOT LABELED FOR GOATS http://www.jefferspet.com/ivomec-injection/camid/liv/cp/17181/ However, a lot of goat breeders DO use it... it's just not been tested for them, so using it would be using it "off label"

I believe many people use it for does and kids. Wethers are no different than does when it comes to it being "safe" for them.

The label info is here: http://www.jefferspet.com/images/label/17181.htm

RESIDUE INFORMATION:  Do not treat cattle within 35 days of slaughter.  Because a withdrawal time in milk has not been established, do not use in female dairy cattle of breeding age.  A withdrawal period has not been established for this product in pre-ruminating calves.  Do not use in calves to be processed for veal.  Do not treat swine within 18 days of slaughter.

I take this to mean you should not use it on lactating does. Especially if you are milking. I also know from talking to Jeffers, that Ivomec is not weather proof, so it needs to administered in dry weather.
