Is she bred?

What are the chances of a doe being pregnant is she is 10 days from her second due date and has no udder, is barely showing, and has not shown a heat since she was bred? This would be her first freshening and she is about 15 months old. The only reason I even would think she is bred is because I have NOT seen her in heat since she was bred in January. She was even with the buck for two heat cycles.

  • She does have a little puff. I thought of it more like a pocket of fat. But it it means something GREAT!
  • Flat as a pancake would mean she is not bred. A handful of an udder would mean is probably bred (or has a precocious udder). When people say some FF do not get much an udder ahead of time, they mean it isn't much. Flat as a pancake is something else entirely. If you feel no puffiness at all in her udder area, she is probably not bred. So it is important to feel. When it is that small, it does not stand out.
  • I had one first freshener whose milk did not come in until the day the kids were born. She was showing some (triplets) but not huge. She didn't have a clue, either...it took her a while to catch on to being a mom.

Some FF won't get an udder in advance, and if she's only got a single she may not be noticably wide.
