Hello from Summer Camp

Hi there,

I have been dreaming of milking goats for years, and never had proper enclosures or energy to work on them. My family just moved from the Australian North Coast to South east Michigan to run a summer camp. Outside our house are two male goats in a good enclosure! So our first step is to give them away, to make way for two female NDs.  I have two little girls who love goats milk, can't wait to milk, and weeks of special needs campers who will love the chance to pat a little goat.

I know little to none about goat care, but am looking forward to learning from all of you at this website.

  • Welcome! Good to have you! How fortunate that you already have a shelter and a pen for when your girls arrive! Do you think you will have to add on to it when your girls have babies, or is it a pretty good size? It would have been so cool to have something already started here but the place was a wreck, we had a lot of clean up and tearing down. After that we built a chicken coop and a quick little goat house, which was pretty useless since they all want to sleep on the front porch anyway. After the kids were born earlier this year, we decided to get cattle panels to make pens, and we have loved them. now they only come up to the porch to get on the milkstand, or they stay on the porch at night when they get close to kidding, so I can hear, observe, and assist more easily.
  • I was born in Washington State, but grew up in the cChicago suburbs, studied in Michigan, worked at summer camps in Michigan and outdoor ed places out East, married an Australian, lived theree for a while and now we are back in MI.
  • What a fun and interesting life! Where are you from originally?
