Just signed up and sure look forward to meeting everyone! We've been raising ND's, Alpines and Nubians for many years. Then took a hiatus and went with a dairy cow exclusively. Now we're back to ND's. DH is disabled with degenerative disc disease and the standard sized dairy goats and then the cow we're a bit too much physically. We're looking forward to our first ND kids in April or May.

Maybe Athena will set the pace and they'll all kid out at noon this season! 90% of the time mine kid out at night or the wee hours of the morning. We actually got up to 50 degrees this afternoon, really unseasonably warm for Southern Idaho. But when the kids are due in the spring we tend to have chilly, straight line winds so we'll see.

It's really cold here in Illinois now too. We've been getting into single digits at night. I'm just thankful that Athena was so thoughtful and did not have any false alarms, especially in the evening. She had the good sense to have her kids at noon and showed no signs of anything until about an hour ahead of time. Next kids are due in early February. In fact, we have 16 due in February and March, and I'm sure I'll have a few cold nights out in the barn before we're done!

Thank you! You're so fortunate! I really wished we'd have bred the does a bit sooner (so we'd have huggable kids by now), but then here in the high desert the early spring temps can be pretty chilly. We're due to pick up our remaining does this coming Thursday, so they'll be bred for kidding around July this year. And of course by that time I'll be most likely complaining about the heat!
Thank you Dianea! Our grandchildren just love the ND's also. Our grandson was a bit scared of the Nubians we had previously, even though they were gentle. Can't wait for this kidding season so they can help with the bottle babies!

So understand the size being issue. Nigerians are just the best size all around. Sides they are so loveable you can not just love them. I so understand the disability issues Tell your husband to take care.
