Hello from Iowa-Texas

Confusing title I know, My wife and I are from Iowa, and after I finish Bible School (in Texas) will promptly move back! My name is Jeremiah and my wife's name is Monica. I am in school to be a Children's Pastor and my wife is an RN. We have always dreamed of having our own homstead and getting goats to provide our dairy needs, and anxiously await the day we can begin this exciting adventure. I'm am so excited that I found this website. It is loaded with tons of information! I've been scouring the discussions making mental notes, and have started some planning as well. We are tying to do as much research as we can before we make the plunge. It's been great to see questions that I've had answered, and always in a respectful way. I would hate to ask a "stupid" question. I look forward to getting to know you, and learning all we can from your very varied experiences!

  • We have had quite the winter in Texas this last month. Crazy ice storms! I would much rather be covered in two feet of snow than two inches of ice!
  • Welcome Jeremiah!  With the weather this winter, you probably wondered, am I in Texas or Iowa?  lol

I have 2 does, that's it, and one is due to kid in early March.  We all love goats and how awesome it is to have all the experience here to guide us through all the "first". ^^

  • Welcome to the group! We'll be neighbors -- I'm in Illinois! Glad you've found some useful info in the archives. Don't worry about asking dumb questions. We've all done that! When we had our first kids here, I freaked out when they had yellow poop and called my mentor. I felt so dumb as soon as she told me that it was normal for babies getting their mother's milk -- duh, I only breastfed all three of my own babies. I've had goats for nine years, and I'm still learning. There is always something happening that makes me say, "Well, I've never seen that before!"
