Hello from Bonney Lake, WA

Hi,

My name is Janelle.  My family and I are working toward becoming self sufficient, and in that process we came across this wonderful little dairy breed of goats!  We love our goats and I invested in some good stock so right now we only have three.  Two does and one buck.  I'm anxious to grow our little herd!  Our two does are due to kid this June and July.  One of my does is bred to a buck with those wonderful Rosasharn genetics.  I can't wait to see what this pair will produce.  Along with the goats we have chickens, a horse and a dog.  I created a website so people can see what I have, and I've met a lot of nice people throughout my journey.  I look forward to being apart of this forum, I love talking about goats.

Thanks,

Janelle Qualey

  • That's neat!  I've only started about a year ago, and I would love to learn to make cheese, yogurt, etc.  We don't do dairy, so until we get our goat milk we use raw nut/seed milk that I make.  I'll be milking one of my does in September, she's due to kid in July and this will be her second freshening.  She had great capacity as a first freshener and she has amazing mammary systems in her pedigree so she should be a good producer.
  • Welcome! We stared the self-sufficiency journey nine years ago, and our goats have played a huge role! They now provide us with 100% of our dairy products (except butter, which is a pain to make without a cream separator). I counted recently, and we've made 17 different dairy products, including yogurt, buttermilk, and lots of cheeses. The cheddar gets REALLY good after it has aged for about a year! You can't buy anything that comes close.
