Goat treats

Hi there - What are your go to treats for goats? Wethers specifically. I feed free choice loose minerals, and free choice orchard grass hay and they have free access to a couple of acres of pasture to browse. 8 month old wether and doe. I know grain would be a welcome treat for her but he isn't supposed to have it. The doe is a little skittish about being touched, she likes to be around us but not being touched. The wether likes to head butt us and play but we would like them to associate us with nice things (treats!). Bonus points if it's easy to get via Amazon or Chewy since we live in the sticks. Thank you!

  • We use hay pellets for hand feeding when we have guests -- alfalfa for the girls and grass hay pellets for the boys. We used to give our goats stale tortilla chips (corn) or crackers (wheat), but then one day my 10-year-old daughter went out there with a box of stale crackers, and the goats jumped on her and pushed her into the electric fence, so that was the end of treats for our goats. If this is a young, growing wether, you can give him a handful of grain a couple of times a day, and that's not going to hurt him. I usually quit giving them grain when they are about 30-35 pounds.

    • The goats got out last night, just into our fenced back yard. They are stinkers and I eventually picked the male up to carry him to the pasture and he bit me, didn't break the skin, but I would really like to form a more positive relationship with them. I feel like food is a good start.

      • Food is always a winner!!!!
