Goat Due

We have a goat that is due and hasn't had her kids.  Today, will make the 150 day, she has a huge udder with colostrum, and has a history of quads.  I don't notice any drainage, ligament seems totally gone, she is eating hay, drinking water and not making any sounds of distress.

As for breeding her, I can't be that far off because she was breed in a pen and date marked down.  My understanding is that Nigerian Dwarf goats don't usually go over 150 days.  Any advice?

I don't want to reach in and feel kids because she doesn't seem to be in labor.  Our other goats did not do this and I am very concerned.  I thought about calling the vet tomorrow if there is any changes.  Any advice would be great.

  • So Eva finally gave birth at 151 days! She had buckling triplets! All seem good at the moment.  Keeping a close eye on them seem very leggy.  Weighing this PM then will monitor how they all go to see if we need to do extra feeding.  They all did feed from mum this morning.

  • LOL I can't even tell you how many times I've done that.

  • Geez.   Two things I need to do, religiously.  The first one is stay off the computer late in the evening.  The second is to always look at dates.  Good thing for me you folks already know I am scatter-brained some times. <g>

You may not get an answer on that, Glenna! That comment was made in 2011.

  • I'm thinking there is a typo in this.  July 12th is day 150?

Our doe, Twonkie, just gave birth at 12:30am today. According to the due date calculator her 150th day was July 12th. I marked the date I saw our buck mount her and they were in a pen together for approximated 3 days.  So she went between 153-156 days. I thought she was going into labor on Sunday but nothing happened and I was starting to get really nervous, but she was doing okay so I figured I just needed to wait until she was ready.
  • Thanks Rachel, It has been so warm today that we took them all out of the kidding pen today and out into the paddock she has been having a great day in the sun and is showing no sign of doing anything! Apart from eating and basking in the sun! Just hoping it happens sooner or later so I can stop pacing lol! and of course will post pictures!

  • Hang in there, Sally!! It's pretty common for NDG to go to day 150! I have a doe that seems to like day 151, but going past 150 is fairly rare from what I understand. Can't wait to read about BABIES on your farm!!

  • So pleased I found this post! Eva is at 148 and we are all pacing and she is just chewing the cud! Last year Elly gave birth and within 24 hours so did Eva, this year we have a two week gap between dues dates I am just wondering if she is waiting for Elly! I am trying to take the attitude that as she is acting normally even though ligaments are feeling soft all is good, we have also started to check on her less incase she is getting mad with us popping in every few hours.  So once again thank you for calming my nerves a little!

  • Congrats can't wait to see pictures!!!
  • congradulations
