What do you recommend for a floor if you are building shelter? A dirt floor, a cement floor, other options? I am worried about the worm/parasites that goats can get. I really don't know much about them. I know they live in the grass. But goats don't really eat that much grass? They like to reach up to eat leaves and such. So how do they get the worms? So I guess I now have two questions, is one about flooring recommendations and the second is what's the deal with worms? Oh I live in Illinois with cold winters and the occasional coyote. That is why I want a barn/shelter for them.

I pre-ordered the book Deborah. It's on it's way. I can hardly wait to read it. Thank you for your answer. I'm very much interested in getting a nigerian dairy goat. I have lots more reading to do, before I get serious.
Although goats are browsers, they do eat grass, and if the grass is too short, there will be worm larvae on it, which will infect the goats.
There are pros and cons to dirt and concrete. We have a mix in our barn because the previous owner was just weird like that. :) I don't see much of a difference between the two, although the concrete is easier to clean. There is no difference between the two in terms of parasites.
My book has 24 pages of info on parasites, so as Rachel said, it's not easy to give a short answer to the broad question of dealing with parasites.
I will try a search. Thank you.
Here's a link to a discussion we've had here about flooring. There's a lot of good info there! :)

I personally am a dirt floor girl. I bed with spent hay from the feeders.
There are also a lot of discussions about worming here if you search the forum for them. Can you narrow your question down a bit for us? That would help us answer you if you have specific concerns or questions about them.
