Eye color

Does eye color change?  Both my kids are blue-eyed.  Does that mean they will stay that way or when could I expect the permanent color?

Sorry I don't have better pics... but here's what I have:

Newborn brown eyes

A set of kids about 1 1/2 months old... one blue eyed one brown. Both looked this way at birth. I didn't get photos.

The ones I have seen looked brown, and a couple looked a lot like newborn human brown eyes... that weird non color gun metal grayish color. It's kind of dark.

So what color are browns at birth?  the kids' sire has blue eyes and so does my 2nd doe Truffle.

Here's a photo of one of my blue eyed does. She was just 2 months old here. Her eyes have gotten more blue now that she's older.

lol whoops! No! Sorry for the confusion. All my blue eyed does looked nearly white when they were born. Have you ever seen a newborn human's eyes? I think the "blue" confusion come when they are that gun metal color. Looks KINDA blue... but in my experience, blue eyes goats are born shockingly blue, and there's not any doubt.

Okay so let me see if I am understanding this correctly:  brown-eyed kids start off white, which can look blue if you don't know what blue really looks like? 

 

I'll go look at the photos you are talking about...daddy off these babies does have blue eyes, mom has brown.

yeah, I think when they are babies, they look almost WHITE.

Rachel is right, but unless one of the parents had blue eyes, the kids don't really have blue eyes. For some odd reason, brown eyes can sometimes fool you if you don't know what a real blue-eyed goat looks like. The blue is like a baby blue color. I thought I had a blue-eyed kid my very first year, even though my mentor tried to tell me it was impossible because the parents were both brown eyed. I posted a link a few days ago about the genetics of blue eyes.
