Do you know what this is in the water?

They are about 1/4"  & 1/2" long and look just like little boiled shrimp. It seems like I only see them after it rains a lot. They are always in the bottom of the water buckets and appear to be dead. Sorry they didn't come out better but they really do look like shrimp! I pored them out on a rock to take their picture.

  • Mosquito larvae are black and would be moving.  Also, they would not be in the water bucket if the water is fresh every day.  Are the buckets near a tree?  I ask because from what I can see of this, it looks like those seed pods (not pods) that fall from a certain type of tree.  Usually they are about an inch or more long but early in the year they would not be full size; rain would knock them out of the trees. I guess the question is, are they animal/insect or vegetable/plant?

  • I am afraid I cannot make out what they look like. Could they be mosquito larva?
