They are about 1/4" & 1/2" long and look just like little boiled shrimp. It seems like I only see them after it rains a lot. They are always in the bottom of the water buckets and appear to be dead. Sorry they didn't come out better but they really do look like shrimp! I pored them out on a rock to take their picture.

Mosquito larvae are black and would be moving. Also, they would not be in the water bucket if the water is fresh every day. Are the buckets near a tree? I ask because from what I can see of this, it looks like those seed pods (not pods) that fall from a certain type of tree. Usually they are about an inch or more long but early in the year they would not be full size; rain would knock them out of the trees. I guess the question is, are they animal/insect or vegetable/plant?
I am afraid I cannot make out what they look like. Could they be mosquito larva?
