dipping my toe in.

I don't have her yet, but in 3 more weeks my first doe is coming home. She'll have weaned her kids and be ready to be milked. So my time is limited to get my act together! PLEASE tell me what I am going to need!

I have basic animal husbandry skills, I don't have goats but I do have highland beef cattle, horses, geese, chickens, ducks and the like, but milking is a new experience. Thanks for your help!

  • Claudette,

I live in Raeford, about an hour southeast of you. Are you looking for registed or non-registered Nigerian Dwarfs? I will have ADGA registered kids the end of June, but a breeder about 15  minutes away from me already has some available (also registered). I have a friend who lives in Carthage who has a doe due next month. Her kids, on the other hand, aren't registered. Let me know if you are interested!

  • Right now she is the only one, but I am on the look out for another. There don't seem to be a lot of dwarf nubian breeders in NC. The breeder seems to think she will be OK with all of the other animals I have as she used to be kept with horses. So I will be on the look out for another doe or doeling in the next few weeks. If anyone knows of any for sale in NC, please let me know.

  • Congrats and welcome to the group!!

  • Congrats on your new girl!! Do you have a stanchion built? They are pretty easy to figure out just by looking on line at photos. That's what I did.
