Clipping Technique!

OK-Simply put so as not to confuse me, clipping instructions, please!

I have a brand new Oster with #10 blades and a whole set of blade guards!

Did I read where someone said always cut in the same direction as the hair growth? I always go against the hair on my dogs and my peoples!

So any way, Do I cut all the hair on the entire body head and all the same length except that little whip on the tail and the guys beards! OR do ya'll at least blend somewhere around the neck!? Do you have to shave their faces?

Now if that is right, I can try that but if there are other spots that I do different then some one should really tell me where the spots are and what I do!

Thank You!

  • I do show when I can. The best advice I can give you for the face is to make it look smooth-stand back and take a look then smooth out any lines. You also have to trim off the whiskers and hair in the ear. My best tip for clipping is to clip about a week or two before a show to let a little regrowth come back. The hair will feel softer and look shinier. I hate to pet a just shaved goat as it feels like stubble.

Margaret we like it up here! Winter can be long sometimes but I lived for two years in Oklahoma and was glad to come back. So much open space and not too many bugs. Summer and fall are the best....

  • I really appreciate it Amy. Exactly what I had hoped to hear.  That is what I want to do.

Do you show?If not do you know if that is the way they clip for show? And the blending around the face, do I just have to get the hang of where to with experience based on each goat and how they look or are there exact points that it needs to be done?

I looked at your profile and your life seems interesting but to cold for me. I have some close friends who recently moved there but came back after only a few months. Apparently they didn't care for the cold much either. Her family is there as she is from one of the native tribes there. But they are use to LA (Lower Alabama) weather.

    Thanks again dear.

  • I go against the hair growth. I use a #10 without a guard but my clippers have an adjustment for either down to the skin (udders) or leaving about 3-4mm of growth on the body. I clip everything and blend into the face. So everything is the same length except for the tip of the tail.
