Christmas !

Wanted to share a little holiday joy with you !

This goat was my last year's Christmas present...my little white doeling Jasmine.

This year she's going to be a Mommy !  (4 of my does are due to give birth for the first time around Christmas to New Year's)

Also, I'm having  a Christmas Tree Photo Contest on my website:

This is the prize

  • we have used wood heat since 2002 - I love it. lot of work though.  I envy you living in Florida - I grew up on the Gulf Coast, my Mom lived in Fort Walton (panhandle) for years - boy do I miss it.  My husband brought us to Oregon from California - anywho, I was noticing the other day - most every house here has a chimney.  Pacific Northwest I suppose - all those trees ^^

I once had a boyfriend whose father used wood heat (an older man who lived in the house he grew up in).

My in-laws also used to have a wood-burning stove for heat at their previous house.

We have a fireplace, believe it or not, living in Florida !

We recently had a campfire b-day party for my little one.

We just built the fenced off area in the barn to hang a heat lamp for the does when it gets colder and closer to the time to give birth.

Good luck finishing up school (good luck on your exams). Hope you enjoy your break !

And  please remember to take a photo of your Christmas tree to submit !

    Thanks,

    Lisa

I use wood heat so I don't put up a tree this early - will be next week for me.  Will be done with school (retraining - ??) next Tuesday, last final YAY!) then a break until January 2

  • I grew up at a house with lots of pine trees too !  We used to have a family of sparrows that built a nest high in the tree that you could see from the upstairs window.  Also had pet rabbits that would sometimes escape out of their fenced off oval run and hide under those pine trees.  It was sad to hear that the people who moved in after us cut them all down.

I always grew up with a fake tree (seemed like the same tree every year). But after being married, I guess we adopted the tradition of getting a fresh cut tree every year, like his family always did.

Once in a while, I let the kids have their year.  (they pick out what kind of tree and use their ornaments to decorate)

When you do get your tree up and decorated, would love for you to enter your photo !

I had enough of the Christmas shopping crowd and traffic today.  All we wanted to do was buy a pair of new sneakers for my husband, get them new hair cuts for our family photo in front of the tree sometime for Christmas cards, and buy some yarn and knitting needles for my vacation (long drive), and some Chinese groceries (oh yeah, and a bag of chicken feed). It seemed to take up the whole day !

Well, I take it back.  I guess we had a late start. The kids had a 4H meeting to make presents for the county commissioners and we did build a fenced off area in the barn for the does.  Not many free weekends left to work on stuff.

Thanks for the pic (that's a nice sunset)!  Do you have a pic of what those trees look like in the day time ? I can't quite tell what kind of pines they are (white pine ? yellow pine ?)

Yep! Still on! Just haven't been adding much in here and there because most discussions have been about kidding and such --- not too knowledgable on that seeing how I've bred my little girls. :)  Goats are good -- outside right now eating what's left of the hay field. :P I would love to do a Christmas cart --- be adorable. Sadly, I haven't gotten them out much this year due to life getting kind of hectic. But, I always have to time to play with them --- never the engergy to work a cart though. If we end up getting a tree up, I might send a pic. There isn't a whole lot of room for a tree here -- :(. I miss it. Of course, we always have our "natural" trees growing outdoors. Check out my photo!

Nice to talk to you again (after about a year !). Glad to see you are still on.  What's been going on with your goats trained to pull a cart ?  Thought about it a while ago but my husband building a cart is low on the priority list. You could decorate the cart like a sleigh and give out goat drawn cart rides (like hay rides - kids love those - especially if the Christmas tree place offers them - except a big tractor is pulling the sleigh).  Wouldn't that be fun ?  You could even put those little reindeer  headbands on the goats !  It's an idea !

Hey, did your family decorate their tree yet ?  Do you want to enter a photo of your tree in my Christmas Tree Photo contest on my website ? It's not official until someone enters it !

    Thanks,

    Lisa

  • Well, the goats seem the perfect audience for Christmas music.  Nice and soft.  I was talking to someone at the fair about my goats tend to be "high strung" like old times fancy southern girls LOL - any out of routine thing - they get all flustered.

I had thought about going to the fair with them this year - just for the fun of it and someone there told me I should play the radio for them to get them used to noises other than their own.  Which I was doing anyway.

But sometimes they hear Elton John, sometimes Bonnie Raitt - sometimes Stevie Ray Vaughn.  LOL

My son has a music room in the barn - when they are practicing (guitar, full drum set - etc.) they will be hanging out in the barn lying on their hay bales, chewing cud.  lol

  • Nice to always see you on here too !

That's so nice that you play music for your goats !  I talk to my goats (haven't tried singing to them yet).

I always spend some time with them after lunch (besides morning and evening feedings/letting them out of the barn and putting them away for the night).

Hope they will be OK when I'm going away on our little vacation with only my husband for our anniversary. They definitely seem to "know you" and not strangers. My poor father in law or my oldest son will have to look after my goats while I'm gone for 4 days. I'll see them in the morning when I leave on day 1 and will be back in the afternoon to put them to bed at night on day 4.  At least they know my boys. They like to feed them grass and weeds and branches and take pics of them.

Have you decorated your Christmas tree yet ?  Do you want to enter a photo of your tree in my Christmas Tree Photo Contest on my website ?  That would be great if you do !  I would be happy with one photo entry ! Maybe it's still too early (not everyone has decorated their tree yet?).

    Thanks,
    Lisa

yum, yum, the last 24 hours I have been playing softly - Christmas music in the barn for the girls- lol

I always have the radio on out there during the day and evening softly - stuff I like to listen to that is - Christmas music seemed more goat appropriate this week :)  Last night when I walked out Away in a Manager was playing - how perfect!
