Cellulite udder??

Hey guys...this is the first time I have had Penny in full milk.  I have weaned the buckling, the doeling is still on her during the day.  At night, the udder is completely empty on one side and super full on the other.  Obviously the girl prefers that side.  Maybe this morning was the first time I thought her udder looked al ittle funny, tonight it really looked kind of like cellulite, felt like it too.  When the udder was very full.  It kind of went away when I was done milking her but the skin still looked stretched funny.

Do they just get a funny shape sometimes or what?  There is no other strange symptom that I can notice.

  • PS she is lopsided still, due to the litter she had before me where the singleton nursed only one side for a whole year.  It is the bigger side that this problem is on.

  • The doeling is sold now and yes I am milking her twice a day.  I was milking the ignored side at night when the doeling was still here, as well, and that was the side that had what looks like edema on the skin.

The milk quality is perfect, I don't see anything strange there, or any heat etc.  I do use a strip cup.  I tried putting some of that minty udder balm from Hoeggers on it because I read somewhere that it would help.  It actually did.  The swelling, if you want to call it that, really appears to be edema on the skin of the udder.

I do have a CMT but I didn't want to jump the gun and use it if is nothing...can you re-use them or are they one time only?

This doe is ALWAYS a bear on the milk stand so there is no way I could even tell if she were uncomfortable.  She gives me a rodeo for her own entertainment no matter what.

  • How is your doe doing now? Are you milking her twice a day, especially on the side that the doeling doesn't nurse? The udder should look and feel the same on both sides. Lumpy, hard, and/or hot are indications of mastitis. Do you have a strip cup? Or when you strain the milk, do you see any chunkies in it?

  • So weird... because it sounds like mastitis to me... but if you can milk her out, and there's no lumps or hardness to it after that....? Weird.

  • Okay let me see if I can explain it better:  yes, it was really tight, because it was the side the doeling doesn't nurse from.  But looking at it, the bag above the teat looked lumpy and when I touched it, it felt like cellulite.  Only the one side that I could say for sure because the other side was empty.  I am going to milk her in a few mintues and the doeling will have been off her all night so I can see what the whole bag looksl ike full.

When she was empty after milking, it seemed like the skin was just stretched not uniformly, like the strange shape was gone now but the skin was still stretched out.  But there was nothing that I could feel like an actual lump inside the bag or teat, it resembled like skin swelling.  For that matter our mosquiotes just really came out full force and she has less hair there than anywhere, I wonder if they are chewing up her lady parts?

  • Hm I am not sure what you mean by cellulite. Is it just really tight? How much milk are you getting from her?
