Bye-bye to my first baby

So I sold Juniper's 11 week old buckling Kip today. He screamed as he was loaded in the crate to leave. It just about ripped my heart out.
He's gone to be a herd sire to Mini-Alpines, so he should be fine. Juniper was calling back to him so I expected that she would be really upset. But other than a little extra bleating and looking around some, she seems suprisingly ok. Me, on the other hand...

It gets easier, right?

  • I used to really worry about my kids, but since virtually all of them have been just fine in their new homes, I don't worry much any longer. So, yes, it does get easier.

  • They sure do, Bev. Fortunately the new owner was kind enough to let me know that he was fine once he got to his new home and had other goats to play with.

I wish I were closer to you and could buy one of your does! :-)

  • I always have a problem when I sell a baby - love them all too much.  You are not alone.   This year I was very lucky and found good homes for my little ones but still have some girls that need to be sold.  I also should sell a couple of milkers but can't find the heart to try.  I am pretty picky about buyers - have turned down some that I feel are not going to take care of the goats.

They really work their way into our hearts don't they.
