  • Thanks, ladies!  It looks like weights are tracking normal. :)  I know I will be keeping careful record of kids so I will have a good idea of what to expect.

  • Penny is my first ND kid and she weighted approximately

    2lbs. 12ozs.@ birth

    4lbs. 12 ozs.@ 2 weeks and

    6lbs. 6ozs. @ 4weeks.

I would say that She has grown @ about the same rate.  I suppose if you collect enough of these weights for comparison it would establish a good reference point. I hope they will help a little!

  • I only had 2 does freshen this past year and one had triplets.  I kept track of their weight growth till they were 2 months old.  Baby 1 weighted 1.68lbs at birth, baby 2: weighed 3.24lbs, and baby 3: weighed 2.52lbs.  I weighed them every other day.  At 4 weeks old this is what they weighed.  baby 1: 6.57 pounds, baby 2: 9.83 lbs, baby 3: 7.63lbs.  At 4 weeks old I sold baby 3 because the people that wanted to buy her wanted to bottle raise her.  She took right to a bottle and went to her new home.  Plus mom was a FF and wasn't sure if she was making enough and baby 1 was getting shoved away a lot.  At 2 months old.  Baby 1 weighed 16.47 lbs, baby 2 was at 24.6 lbs.  Hope this helps!  Its amazing how fast they grow! Looks like your babies are doing good.  I'm new to all this! This year will be my second kidding.

  • I know this is an older post but I had some questions.  My 3 kids are now 4 weeks old.  The buckling was a scant 2 pounds when born, one doeling was a hair over, and the other doeling was 2 1/2 pounds.  The buckling is now  6 lbs, 8 oz., one doeling is 6 lbs, 10 oz., and the bigger girl is now 6 lbs, 12 oz.   I can't imagine them 2o pounds in another 4 weeks.  Are they on track?  They are all being dam raised and she has never had trouble feeding three before (triplets are her norm).  Everyone, mom and kids, appears healthy with nice shiny coats and active, with good weight.

  • After two months, it can vary a lot depending upon diet, parasite load, and genetics. They should be 40 pounds before breeding, which could happen anywhere from 9 to 18 months.

  • What would be an average weight gain per month, beginning at two months old? I have two does, one whether and one buck.

  • I've never seen this written down anywhere, but a good weight for a ND kid at birth is close to 3 pounds. I've had as small as 1.25, which is way too small! I don't like anything less than 2 pounds -- usually means the kid will have trouble eating. And I don't like anything bigger than 4 pounds, because it's hard on the moms. I've had a couple that were 5+ pounds, and they came out okay, but I felt sorry for the moms. They just had to push really hard! By 8 weeks, they're usually around 20 pounds, maybe up to 25.
