Sumac delivered twin bucklings around noon today. We had the timer set to check on her every 45 minutes (we really need to get a monitor) as her ligaments were totally gone during morning chores. My husband went out to check on her and felt for her ligaments because he's trying to understand that better and there was no mucus at that point. Sumac wanted to get out of her kidding pen to hang around with the rest of the herd and was showing no signs of labour. I did the next 45 minute check and there were two kids on the ground, both cleaned off and one of them already standing!

Sumac is a first freshener but is an awesome mama. All my does have been good mothers, but sometimes seem a little shocked by the whole thing at first. Sumac got them all cleaned and was nuzzling them. Then she started nudging them to her udder and even lifted up her rear leg to help them find her teats. It was so sweet.

I'll post pictures tomorrow.

  • Congratulations! About the baby monitor -- I just bought the cheapest one I could find -- $15. Best investment I ever made!
