Advice on Milking Machines

I am not new to milking and love to milk by hand, however I am going to be out of town for a week next month and don't think my goats or my daughters will handle all my milkers. Does anyone one have advice on what kind of machine to purchase? I would love a used one that is simple to use. Thanks-Annie

  • Hey Tracy- I haven't got it yet, but plan to. Thanks for the help. I'll let you know if I encounter any problems.
  • Did you get your milker? Let me know if I can help. It's really easy and so sanitary, once you get the hang of it you'll be hooked.

Thanks for all the advice. I took a look at the video that Tracy suggested and it made it look fairly easy. I have seen other hand milking machines for up to $200 so the $45 one looks great. I have also seen some homemade ones made from squirt bottles, aquarium tubing and shot syringes. It looked a little scary. I've got a few weeks to work on the milkers before I leave. They do better daily.

If any milking machine is used incorrectly, it can cause bruising. I don't have any experience with this particular pump, but if someone didn't use it correctly, that could explain what happened. We're still trying to learn to use the Hoegger milking machine. It's not as easy as they make it sound.

I've heard that Maggidan's can be rough on teats - bruising, etc. Anyone have experience? Any other recommendations?

  • It works great on everybody here. Here's the site to purchase, watch the video and I think you'll see how easy it is.

Does it help with first time milkers? Most of my milkers are pretty good, but I hate to leave the two new milkers for the children to wrestle with. I am hoping to have them well trained by the time I leave. Where would I find one of these?
