Younger males have smaller or more kds?

I recall in the past that discussing breeding of some species- one was encouraged to breed younger males to smaller females as it could result in smaller babies. I don't know if it was dogs where the discussion happened. It is a distant memory. From my limited experience of using 2 9 month old bucklings as studs last fall, everyone seemed normal size. So my guess is that this doesn't apply to Nigerians but thought I'd ask you more experienced folks! Judy

  • I've never heard that, and I certainly haven't seen it. Using young bucks is quite a gamble, as you don't know how big they are going to get, and they can continue to grow until they're three years old. I don't see how that could be true in any species. Perhaps the thought was that they have smaller litters because they have a lower sperm count? I believe that.
