Weather

I was wondering what everybody is using to keep their goats cool? and warm in the winter? We have a metal barn and currently, use one big industrial fan and two box fans.  It has 4 stalls, plus: storage stall.

The temp. in Kentucky is 95 degrees.  The adult goats and babies each have their own door to go in and out of the barn.  Any other ideals?

Thanks.

  • Unfortunately, there's not much you can do other than make sure they have plenty of water. That's the important thing -- especially for mamas making milk.
  • It is 92 degrees here in Northern Maine and I am blessed to house my goats in a portion of our garage. The floor is cement and the circulation is great. I keep it closed most of the day accept. I prop one door up about a foot and leave the man door open. The outside pen is a covered porch attached to the garage. All in all it has kept very cool in spite of such hot weather. I take them out to graze in the late afternoon.
