  • he just acts like he is a day behind the others. Two  are still wabbly but get where they want to go. He still hunts to eat and lays down where ever he is at when he is tired. So we watch carfully to move him back under the heat lamp.

Abigail has had kids with another family. But she is a first timer with us. She has calmed down and I have been able to milk for a reserve bottle for him. Keeping a very watchful eye.

All three birthing pens are in use. Can't wait until I can open it up into one big pen to play. Each pen is so small with a doe and three little ones, feed and water bucket, hay rack and to fit myself too.

So much work but so much fun! Birth is a miracle!

So glad to hear he's doing better! If his mom is a first freshener, I would bottle feed him. If she is an experienced mom, and you know she's a good producer, it might be okay, but then it's going to depend on how piggy his siblings are. Just keep a close eye on him. Feel his tummy a few times a day and make sure it's full. It's right there where his ribs end. It should feel full. Compare his to his siblings, and you'll figure it out.

He is doing 100% better than he was at 9am and 1000x's than after birth at 7:30am. THANK YOU! Your encouragement and wisdom is very much appreciated!

  • The hooves seem normal. My son (now 20) just reminded me a couple days ago of how scared he was that he had hurt a newborn a long time ago when he was drying it, and part of the hoof came off in the towel. The bottoms of their hooves are VERY soft at birth.

Seven years ago, we had a little doeling born that was half the size of her brothers, and she wound up with hypothermia because we weren't there when she was born. She couldn't suck at all when we found her, so we had to tube feed her for more than a day. I don't think she stood until she was two days old. It was so scary! But she grew up to be ARMCH Antiquity Oaks Carmen, *D VG, so you just never know!

He did take some syrup and i took him out and opened his mouth to nurse. He chewed so hopfully he got some good stuff in him.

He is so small he is half the size of the other two. I have concerns about his hooves. The kids born yesterday their hard part and fleshy part were more even.

  • So happy to read things turned out well for the little guy.

  • The more colostrum you can get into him the better chance he had.  milk her  and try to get something down him asap. and keep him warm. I had the same thing a few days ago...good luck!!
  • I do have corn syrup. Do iIgive straight or do I water it down? IF i put my finger in his mouth he will suck.

We are sitting next to the heat stove. I don't have a heat pad but we are laying towels on the stove and wrapping him up in warm towels.

after two hours he (PeeWee) seams to be stronger. We milked another doe and have been giving him her milk. Abigail will not let me milk her yet. When we take him out to nurse he doesn't even try.

  • It really depends on what's wrong with him. We had a couple of doelings born like that once, and they made it. If you have any Nutri-Drench or corn syrup or molasses, you can put a few drops in his mouth to see if he can swallow. Don't give more than a couple drops until you know if he can swallow. Will he suck on your finger? If so, that's a good sign.
