update and behavior question

I have not had time to post since my girls came home! I am so excited to have them. Isabel comes running up to get petted when she sees me. Indiana still hangs back but will usually sniff if I stick my hand out.... she likes her food David just calls her "the big fat one..." I think he might not like their names LOL... He calls Isabel "the little red one" even though I am fairly certain I have drilled their names into his head. I have not had a chance to check in since their arrival with all the homework I have had. I sold Sam and Stan  together for $175. At the beginning I had two buyers lined up, but the one who was going to take Sam backed out, So I was not sure what I would do, but the guy could not decide which goat he wanted, and I said I would take $175 for both if it meant that they would go together. I felt good about that. So now I have my girls who have been bread with Dill's Wild Card, and hopefully we will have some great looking babies at the end of January!

Anyway, they have met the dogs, and decided they don't like them... the other day Indiana had moved into a corner, and she was looking at Logan, who looked at her like... "What you lookin' at Willis?" and she made this noise  like blowing air through her lips... like little kids do when they make motor boat noises, or something, Why did she do that?  Has anyone ever seen that? She has not done it since.. but I am wondering what that's about.

I think the dogs are confused about why the new goats don't like them when Sam and Stan got along pretty well with them. After the first day neither cared what the other 4 legged animals did. The rooster is the play toy around here apparently...poor little guy. He never liked being handled much, but he runs to us when the dogs start chasing... I think he knows we will rescue him. Funny thing though, the dogs don't care at all about the hens or the pullets... I bet if he was brave enough to spur those little turds a few times they would start leaving him alone.
Also I posted pics to my photos!

  • Congrats on your does! They generally only make that sound when they're excited about something -- and I don't mean happy-excited. I think she was saying, "Don't mess with me!" Most goats don't like dogs. Bottle babies will usually tolerate them more than dam-raised, which is not always a good thing. We had a bottle baby who let our then-puppy LGD play really rough with her, and I thought he had really hurt her one time. Within a couple hours, she was fine, but I still can't believe she let him play with her like that.
