Treating lice in very young kids?

I have a new goat friend who asked me yesterday how she should deal with lice. Her two does and four kids, which are all less than a month old, have them. She used DE, but wanted to know what she could do if that doesn't work.

I told her about shaving them and also about potentially using Cylence topically if necessary, but that I wasn't sure that either of those things would be appropriate for such young kids. It's been in the 60's the past couple of days, but there's always a chance of a cold snap this time of year.

What would you do for such young kids?

  • Thanks! I will pass this along.

  • I've used Eprinex (eprinomectin) or Ivomec (ivermectin) pour-on at the rate of 1 cc per 10 pounds, which means you need a 3 cc syringe (with NO needle) for little kids, and just drip it between their shoulder blades.
