  • The other thing to consider is that he might not get her pregnant at his age. Again this year I used a 6-month-old buck, and the first doe he bred did not get pregnant. That's happened before. I'm not saying not to try using him for breeding, but I am saying that you shouldn't castrate him until you know your doe is pregnant.

  • His is kind of on the big side(almost 30 lbs and 18ins tall).

    I did take my band castrater to see if it looked like he could still be castrated with it. It looks like I could do it with not too much persuasion.

    Now I just have to wait a see if my doe comes back into heat next week.

  • Yes. That's why I ultimately purchased a Burdizzo. I wanted to band a 6-month-old buck, and there was no way it was happening. Some grow faster than others. Some 4-month-olds would already be too big.
