Okay, so I am looking for some experinced goat people! - or novice!
I have a goat who has a white back and every year she sunsburns really really bad. We have not shade out here, besides the shade her spools provide, and even when there is shade from the house, she stays away. Does anyone have any ideas on how to protect her?

UPDATE: The goats were shaved yesterday because of the 80 degree weather today and the 90 today. Plus it will be in the high 80's all weeks.
So, today I got an out shirt out for Goose and put it on her. It worked well - for a little well. When I returned home from church this morning the shirt was off, ripped in half and it looked like someone dragged it through the mud - thank goaties! Does anyone have any other ideas for preventing sunburn on a goat?
Interesting. And your goats don't lick it? No rash?
I'll have to look into that.
Thank you!

Hello, After clipping I put 40 Sun block on all upper area's from top of head to tip of tail including the udder. My goats are sun worshipers so even with shade they burn. I reapply ever 3 to 4 days. So far no adverse effects. I use CVS brand have been doing this for years. Beth
Just found this picture of Sherri wearing a sweat shirt and thought you'd like to see it. Looks like it was a little big on her, but it's not a great picture. Maybe I'll find some more later.
I asked Katherine, and we can't remember a goat ever ripping one off, although we NEVER say that a goat won't do something! Use an old shirt that you don't care about.
I thought about sunscreen too, but I didn't want to say anything, because I have the same question as you -- is it safe for goats? I feel pretty safe saying I doubt that even the manufacturer knows the answer to that one.

I had thought of that, but I wondered if Fairy would just pull it off or rip it - knowing her. She loves to rip clothing, and I am sure Hansel would give it a go! Ever had a problem with that or do they leave it alone?
I have heard that baby sunscreen works - but is that safe?

When we clip our goats for shows and it's cold, we put T-shirts on them. If you have any old shirts from when you were about 12 years old, they should fit. At least that's the size I remember using. This past winter, we had a goat kid when it was about 10 below zero, and she was shivering really badly so I put an adult woman's medium sweatshirt on her, and it fit. I just cut off the arms.
