Shampoo

For those of you who make goats milk soap, is it possible to make shampoo?  I am amazed at how great the soap was for our skin over the winter and I was wondering if it would be good for a dry scalp?

  • I use my soap as shampoo, and I have customers who do also. Depending upon the recipe, you can wind up with dry or oily hair, so if it doesn't work quite right, try another recipe. I've had both extremes. You can use vinegar as a rinse if you wind up with hair that doesn't seem quite right.

Yes, you can sub goat milk for water in any recipe. The only catch is that you need to freeze the goat milk and use it when it's partially thawed -- I'd say maybe 25% thawed, so still mostly frozen. I freeze it in freezer bags so it's flat and I can break it into chunks when I'm ready to use it. I suggested once in class that you could also freeze it in ice cubes, and someone said she was going to try that, but I never heard back from her about how it worked.

  • I just found a recipe here: http://www.snowdriftfarm.com/form_cpsoap.html

For any soap recipe, can you substitute goat's milk for the water?
