I just got my bucket of selenium from caprine supply and was wondering if anyone has started giving this free choice yet? I'm very nerves to put this out as it says on the bucket to use as a food topical. since I'm still a new owner I don't want to hurt my baby's. Rather fallow someone else's lead on this. Thanks.

A lot! The amount that's in the injectable Se that has killed goats is really high. There are 5 mg in a cc of MultiMin, whereas the Se supplement that I use free choice is 0.00667% Se, which is literally next to nothing.
The bucket has an amount printed on there for recommended feeding. Maybe put out 4X the daily recommended amount and see what happens? That's not enough to kill them if they eat it all at once. If they have a free choice mineral, they probably won't eat it all at once because they won't be needing that much. They could need as much as 2X the recommended amount, but they won't even eat that much if they already have a free choice multi-mineral supplement. The only time my goats have gobbled up the selenium is when the regular minerals ran out.
I've had it out for about two months now, and they hardly touch it, which makes sense for us because all the livers I've ever had tested came back borderline low. A lot of grassfed cattle people have all of their minerals out individually "cafeteria style." You could start by putting out a small amount, and if they go crazy for it and gobble it up, you could wait awhile before putting out more.
