New to group, older to goats

Hi all! I am new to this group, but am glad to be on it :-)  I have 11 nigerian dwarfs among other critters. I live in North Carolina in an area where most people view little goats as pets, brush or meat, but I keep them for dairy purposes. We make cheese, soap, puddings, everything from the milk, and my goats are my piece of contentment in a crazy world. We have had goats for three years now, and have created/found a small, but growing, community of people with them locally. We use a mixture of health practices, using conventional medicine if needed but practicing mostly holistic natural health for our animals as well as ourselves. ~ Jordana from Nigerian Meadows

  • I looked at your pictures, Lyn! They are great; what sweet looking goats you have!

  • Nice meeting you to Jordana

I got my first two, Moose & Lola about a year and a half ago. Then this year I got my other two from the same breeder , Maxwell & Bella. I also took in a rescue his name is Oliver. I have 15 chickens and one Bantum rooster. To see my profile just click on my picture, it should bring you to it.

Hi Lyn, it's good to "meet" you! How long have you had your goats? I haven't quite figured out how to see profiles :-)

Welcome to the group, I'm also a newbie to both the group and raising Nigerians. They totally ground me, and calm me down after a hard day at work . I love them to pieces. I have 5 of them now. I haven't breed any yet, I plan on doing that after I retire.
  • Welcome to the group, can't wait to check out your page.  We are just starting out and have 5 Nigerians.  We just bred our first female a few weeks back, so I am so excited about getting milk :0).  We try and grow most of our food, so I am excited to start making cheese, yogurt, and whatever else I can make with their milk.  We have chickens for eggs and meat and ducks.  Welcome I have learned so much from this group and especially Deborah....
  • Hi Deborah! Yeah, a half acre isn't much, but we have been blessed with friends that sure make doing more possible! Believe it or not we are still adding things! We want to start going "up" a level this next year, adding trellises and arbors for vines.  I am really looking forward to reading your book; you have a lot of wisdom and skills! I'm hoping the information you have in it will help me grow even more in our homesteading adventure.

Welcome! I'm so happy  you decided to join us! I'm always talking about you when people say they don't have enough acreage to grow their own food.
