Hi all,
Well I sent off tests for my entire herd for CAE and Johnes this year-- CL needed to go to a different lab and was expensive and I've read it's not very reliable. My goats were tested for it the first year and I've never had an abscess so I'm not worried. HOWEVER, my youngest doe tested positive for Johnes (she's 8 months old, born here). Her mother has had 3 litters here and all of them tested negative. So I'm assuming it's a false-positive but I guess I need to do another test for her. So frustrating. Should I do a fecal test for Johnes on her? What are the chances she has it considering there have never been goats on this property until I bought it and for years now no one has tested positive?
Feeling frustrated :(

Thanks, I'll do that!

I'd call the lab and ask to speak to a pathologist about your results. Ask what their rate of false-positives are. You didn't mention which lab, but WADDL will do re-tests for free.
Re-reading the report it says that animals should be tested for Johnes after 18 months for best reliability. Should I even bother with getting another test, or not worry about it?
Oh and yes it was Elisa tests.
