Kidding

I have a doe in her second kidding. She is due or past due.  How do I know she is ok? She has had some drainage. She is huge, had triplets last time.  Our temps are 107 in the daytime. We change her water 3 times a day and have shaded her shelter. Is there anything I should watch for?

Thanks

  • Welcome to the group! Hope delivery goes well for your doe... :0)
  • Welcome to the group! Glad you found the other post on this topic. If you are still having 100+ temps, I'd put a fan on the doe. You would think that warm temps wouldn't bother kids, but they seem to be more bothered by 90+ than by 20 degrees.  We are in Illinois so have almost never had summer kiddings, but the kids seem less active the first few days when it's super hot, and they don't sleep close to each other -- for obvious reasons. Their normal body temp is 102-103, so your 107 sounds a little scary. I wouldn't worry about the doe's due date though.
  • I guess I skipped the introduction, oops, I have a Nigerian doe about to pop, a buck and a mini mancha doe.  Several chickens, A great german shepherd that looks out for everyone, lab/border collie mix(we have to watch him), 16yr old cat and the alpha female pomeranian. I have been very impressed with what I have read so far on this site. When she has her babies I will post.

    Thanks

  • ok, I saw some other questins that addressed this.  Do I need to worry about the outside temperature?
