Is there anything to help a goat with allergies?

I recently aquired two bucks from my mentor and they have been with me for about a week  now. After all the crazy rain we have had I had to worm them today and noticed that Pecial (the older buck) has a bit of a runny nose. The mucus is clear on the outside of his nose. The inside looks cloudy white...Pecial is a mostly white buck, and I never paid any attention to the color of the inside of his nose...but the white I see could just be what the inside of his nose looks like. All the other goats noses are clear, Including my younger buck Boudreaux. My mentor indicated that clear-white mucus is allergies where yellow-green means an infection. I don't know what he  could be allergic to that the others are not... there is any number of things to be allergic to here. Is there a good treatment for allergies in goats?

  • I've never heard of allergies in goats. I know in humans, clear is allergies, and green or yellow is an infection. Maybe he just got some dust in his nose or something? It's not unusual for goats to sneeze and snort a lot when they're eating hay, especially if it's dusty or it's alfalfa that has tons of little pulverized leaves. Considering all the problems people have with allergies in dogs, if I did ever have a goat with allergies, I don't think I'd breed it, because I wouldn't want to perpetuate those genes.
