Hello!
Just a note of introduction... I have a homestead that is converting to a small farm business in southwest New Hampshire. Nigerians were the high priority addition after raising poultry for a few years, and I'm excited to be at the point where my 2 girls, Faun & Farin can be bred in the next few months! We acquired our girls from the award-winning Willow Moon Farm in Plainfield, VT so we would be sure have the best chance of superior dairy quality. If you're in the general area and haven't tasted Willow Moon Farm chèvre, we highly recommend it!
My first goal with Nigerians is of course lots of delicious milk & dairy product production for our family and our community, but a fun bonus goal has been enjoying the friendly, people-oriented nature of our goats! We hike with our girls & dogs, and they are really sweet with our young children & farm visitors. Faun still tries to get in my lap. ;-)
In addition to our Nigerians, our farm is home to 3 Shetland Sheep for fiber & lawn mowing, 2 small ponies that cater to the littlest horse people, a small flock of Runner ducks for eggs & occasional meat + our beloved Great Pyrenees livestock guardian/family dogs.
I'll be excited to offer Nigerian goat kids + goat milk products next year, but for now I'm focusing on offering behavior consultations for Livestock Guardian Dog and pet dog owners, as well as 1 working Great Pyrenees puppy for sale this year that we are starting on our farm. I'd love to hear from you or anyone you know who is in need of a herd guardian! We rely on our Great Pyrs for the safety of our other animals. They have come to the rescue again & again.
I'm looking forward to connecting with other Nigerian keepers near & far! Glad to be here. :-)
Cheers,
Charity Houghton
