I Have a Screaming Doe ~ HELP!

Okay, my little Nigies are 9 months old now. I adore them but I have a little problem. The little doe, Phoebe, screams her head off when she comes into heat every month -- for about 3 days.

When I say scream...I mean blood-curdling, piercing, non-stop screaming. Like she's being ax-murdered. I have an Angora doe & I've had pygmy & Nubians in the past and have never heard anything like this.

The neighbors are angry and it's hard for even us to tolerate -- and we love her. *sigh*

But I'm about to throw her at the next buck that crosses our path out of defense, LOL. Of course, with my luck, she's have twin girls. :D

Is it common to have them spayed? Is it simple for her? Will that WORK?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

  • I haven't heard of having a doe spayed, but it would stop her from coming into heat. It is unusual for them to do that every month. I have a couple who will do it every now and then. If you were planning to breed her, she's old enough. Is she at least 40 pounds? That would stop the screaming too.
