I brought home a little doe and her brother (whether) two weeks ago. I also have another weather, and because we read to quarantine them we have kept then separate.
I was just wondering how long to do this..
They came home from a healthy herd (Looked very healthy, they also tested) but had been at the fair the week before we got them. What do you guys thing?

You probably won't spread parasite by wearing the same shoes unless you let their area get really poopy, however, if they had Johnes, that is supposedly easily spread via the fecal-oral route. Just petting them is probably not a big deal. Most of the diseases are spread via blood, milk, and poop, so unless you touch those things, the odds of transmitting anything are pretty slim. Some people think CAE can be transmitted via nasal secretions, but I don't think most of us come in contact with nasal secretions on a regular basis, and if we did, we'd probably want to wash our hands anyway. :)
Just brought my new doe and her 10 week old little girl home yesterday. I am keeping them in quarantine for a month. They are healthy, and came from a tested healthy herd, but I am not going to risk it. Do you all use different shoes for their area and wash your hands after petting them as well? I was thinking about that today. This is going to be tough to keep track of with my kids.
I was told that 2 weeks should be plenty so I introduced some newbies to my herd after only 2 weeks quarantine and now my whole herd is having problems. I would and will qurantine for at least a month or more now. Just thought I would share.
Most things show up within a month -- other than stuff like CAE and Johnes, which you'd have to test for. As for the fair, they usually pick up things like pink eye in close quarters, which would show up right away.
