How long is too long between pregnancies?

Hello ladies, I was wondering if I could get some advice about spacing between breeding.  My babies are going to be TWO ALREADY this next February, and I am going to breed them this fall.  My question is in regards to their mothers - will it be harmful for them to not be bred and wait until next year, or should I breed them this fall also?  I wanted to make sure my babies get pregnant before it's too dangerous, but was going to give moms a break, especially since they are still producing milk, but then started worrying about it.  Thanks for your experience!

  • You don't need to worry about giving the moms a break between milking and pregnancy. If your goats are unhealthy or unfit to kid every year, then there are nutritional problems. If you don't kid goats regularly, the biggest problem is that they might wind up overweight, and then you'll have difficulty getting then pregnant when you want to. Most goats are only dried up the last two months of pregnancy.
