I've tried to measure my does but not sure where to read the tape. Is it at the top of the withers at the highest point? Instructions say shoulders so not sure.
My smallest FF doe who is going to kid in 3 weeks is pretty small but has good width of backside and deep breadth. SHORT legs! I don't think she's taller than 18 but I'm not sure, so help with measuring would be good. I waited 'til she was 40 lbs to breed her but she is a tiny doe. She only weighed 12 lbs when I brought her home at 10 weeks old! The other doeling I got at the same time (different parents) weighed twice that! I think they might have sold her mama before she should have been weaned :(

Yes you measure at the top of the withers. You really need an official measuring stick to get a correct measurement. Even using an official measuring stick, it can be a challenge to get a good measurement, and it may differ from one time to the next by as much as an inch. Here is a pic of what it looks like:
