Hormonal issues at The Fen

HI All,

I have a two and half year doe that we bred last year with a false pregnancy.  She seems to have irregular heat cycles.  She was bred on November 5th and has a discharge daily & 2 days after being bred, she had what appeard to be a cramp,  squatted and 2-3tsp  of thick white discharge came out when she squatted.    She is acting like a buck, mounting the wethers and other does in the barn.  Do does act like buck while in heat or while other does are in heat?  Does anyone know the cost of working up a hormonal treatment and using hormones to conceive?

I feel like her hormones would stablize if she would get pregnant.  She doen't seem happy now.  We are not professional dairy goat farmers these guys are our family.

  • You may want also want to consider mineral deficiencies.  A lot fertility issues are caused by the goat being deficient in selenium and/or copper.

  • My girls usually have thick white discharge when they are just starting their cycles and yes, they are bucky, mounting the other does when in heat too.  Yours sounds like she came back into heat again after you bred her-- what they call a 5 day heat. In that case, you need to breed her again on the second cycle because the first one is probably false. Last year two of my does did this and they got pregnant on the second part of the 5 day cycle. This year I have one who just did that this week. We bred her 3 times to the buck and then in 5 days she was back in heat and we did it all over again. Hoping she settles.

I don't know anything about hormonal treatments though.
