Hi Everyone!

My husband, Jon, and I have developed some strange symptoms lately.  They started when we purchased two garden variety, non-registered pygmy goats.  We noticed shortly thereafter that we were spending too much time in the yard and were uninterested in household chores.  We began to get up in the morning and sneak outside to see the "pee wees" as often as we could.  The next symptoms were very worrisome...

We began to compulsively shop for miniature goats.  We were willing to travel long distances and spend too much money trying to obtain registered nigerian dwarf kids.  Then the worst occurred...

I found my husband online the other day viewing pictures of doe udders.

We now have 4 goats and 4 "on the way".  Our goal is to build a nice herd and have goat babies someday.  Thanks for this forum as we will have MANY questions along the way.

  • I am so envious!! This is exactly what we are working towards! I cannot wait for the day I taste the cheese made from the milk, given to us from the goat who dined on our fields in the backyard! If I have any questions along the way perhaps I can drop you a line? I still have a long way to go(and learn!)...My girls i plan on breeding are only 4 months old!! I also live close to a "touristy" couple of towns on the ocean and am hoping to maybe strike it lucky and sell my cheese to them! they are buying their goat cheese out of state! So thats my dream of the future! :)

That's how it starts for all of us! I just wanted a couple goats so I could make goat cheese. NOW, I have 14 does in milk. Making a few batches of chevre seemed innocent enough, but before I knew it, I was making yogurt, buttermilk, mozzarella, and even ice cream! Now my husband makes cheddar and gouda and parmesan. And I make soap, too. I have four more does kidding in Aug/Sept to sustain our addiction through the winter, and I'm keeping five doelings, so there is no end in sight!
