Fairy loosing hair but recovering Fairy is Nigerian Dwarf my concern with her is hair loss pictures shown. Annie is a Nubian Alpine cross. Annie picks at her food and looses interest very quickly, she is loosing weight and doesn't seem to be putting any back on, eyelids white (have had heavy worm infestation) now, excessive salivation, generalized weakness, has trouble getting up when she falls very unstead, both back legs hocked in, deformity of rear hooves, wet cough (no discharge from sinuses), loosing hair, no fever.
Both have been vet treated for coccidosis and heavy worm infestation
B vitamine, Corcid, Valbuzen and Ivermectin, copper bolus,Penicillan, nuflor, BOSE.
I am on day 3 of Molly's dewormer, free choice fresh spinach, probiotics, yogurt when they will eat it,have tried backing soda, loose minerals, molasses water. Still can't get Annie to eat more than a few nibbles at a time, and she really doesn't drink water (unless its warm then just a little), she seems to be eating hay and loves the fresh spinach, I would take her out to graze but everything is a mud bog right know. She absolutely refuses the minerals.Help she needs to get better and we are all at a loss.my vet thinks there was probably lung damage from the cocci that's why she has the cough.Annie has been treated with corcid, b vitamin nuflor and valbuzen three times now i don't dare push my luck with anymore.Fairy responded after second treatment cycle.
Fairy was worse than Annie but treatment was effective except the hair loss, she is putting weight on and her appetite is very good (have to watch her).

ouch yeah Fairy had twins last yr they where both doing fine then the buckling died a few days after we moved for no apparent reason he was 3 months old the doeling is still with us but small for her age. Annie we will probably never breed but we have a couple of does that we can not register so she will have companions.
the molasses I give is in small quantities just enough to encourage them to eat or drink 1- 2 tbs per gallon. but there is molasses in there feed. shopping tomorrow picking up some goat chow Annie hasn't really been eating anyways so a feed change wont be to drastic to her but Fairy I will have to introduce slowly.
Fairy was dam raised in fact her mom (Fancy) has taken over rearing her daughter odd she is over a yr old but still clings like a new baby.Never thought of free choice for young ones I will definitely put it on my do list.
Thank You
If these does spent a lot of time in the house the first six months, did they have free choice minerals available? Babies usually start nibbling at minerals within a couple weeks of age. These does may also have started eating later than they should have. I know it can be really hard to get bottle babies to eat real food because they do not have a role model. Dam raised kids start eating within a few days of birth.
Even if these does pull through, I would not breed them. I had a couple of kids born to a copper deficient doe years ago and they were always sickly. One was much worse than the other though. She was a first freshening three year old because it took her a year to get pregnant, and then she mad mastitis twice, and then she died two days after her second freshening. It can be really hard to completely overcome mineral deficiency early in life.
actually the well we had where Fairy was born was clear but, the well at the place we stayed for a little over a yr had high iron (we also had issues with black mold thats why we moved in a hurry).
MannaPro Goat mineral, I did have another feed supplement Manna Pro Goat balancer we ended up returning it after a couple feedings (it was full of bullweavles)
Did you have a well at your previous farm? If so, did it have high sulfur or iron?
Mineral problems do not happen overnight. When you buy goats, it can take awhile for them to get deficient, but the fact that you are seeing this in two does that were born on your farm means something is wrong. We did not start to see problems in our herd until we had owned goats for 2-3 years.
fairy is three Annie turned 1 in February
no I am not I was for the longest time and then my supplier closed shop. so I started going to Tractor Supply for 12% sweet feed, and a local mill for the other
no power plants or anything here, lots of underground springs (ground is always damp) I did start feeding with my normal 12 % sweet about November I started adding cracked corn , and whole oats
