Hello from the Grass Seed Capital of the World

This region of the Willamette Valley in Oregon bills itself as the Grass Seed Capital of the World. Which means there are a lot of green fields at this time of year. I got my start with ND's in 2007 with four does from Sarah at Mac's Rainbow. Fortunately for me she is located just 3 miles away, and she willing to share her expertise with newbies like me. Right now I have 16 Niggies - 12 does, 3 bucks and 1 wether (first kid born here). My main interest in having them is supplying milk and other dairy products for the family table. My goal is to eventually be producing 75% or more of our families food right here on 4.8 acres. That goal will be a while in coming - lost too many trees in the orchard to a very cold spring last year, and my children are still too young to really help around the place, but we are making progress slowly but surely. My website is mostly dedicated to the goats - so if you'd like to see additional pictures please stop by www.wagsranch.com

  • Welcome to the group! We also have a goal of producing as much of our own food as possible. In 2010, I'm going to keep track of everything we produce (milk, eggs, cheese, vegetables, fruit, meat, etc). I keep beating myself up about not producing more, so I'm hoping I'll be pleasantly surprised!
