Hello from southern VA

Hello all! Its taken me a little while, but I am finally getting around to an introduction. My name is Angel Cole. I live in Boydton, VA with my family; my husband Mark and our four boys, Bradyn, Declan, Liam and Landon. We have had Nigerians for over 2 years. We got our start with a few unregistered does that we rescued that were tethered in a back yard. From there we realized that we enjoyed the Nigerians much more than our Boers and Pygmies and that we wanted milk, cheese and soap.

We spent time doing a farm mentorship with Barb Halligan of CornerStone Farm and also bought 2 bucks from her. This year was the first year of "Bannerfield Farm" animals. Our only 2 does (it was a buck year....) are much more lovely than I thought they would be. We have quite a few animals from Kid 'n Acres and most our animals are mostly of Caesar's Villa lines. We also really like Steele Ballew lines and have one Steele Ballew doe, who happens to be the dam of this year's ADGA Junior National Champ (how fun!). We just bought a very nice buck that is all Steele Ballew, as well.

So, I think we are set for awhile and are going to give it a few years to see what comes of our breeding plans. Our focus is milk and trying to get the folks in our rural and rather poor area to see the benefits of Nigerians as family milkers. We went to our first show in June and did much better than we thought we would. We'd never really planned to show, but have found that it is A LOT of fun!

I make cheese and am learning to make soap. We love our goats - for all they do for us - both in nutrition and in companionship. We are also really enjoying getting to know all the other folks in the country that love Nigerians as well.

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

  • Welcome Angel! I am just getting started in goats. I found a great deal on two cute little bucklings, so after I checked out the lady's entire herd and thought about it for a few hours I got them. at 3 months old I would imagine they are of breeding age now, or will be in another couple of weeks. I have really enjoyed them so far. I am still looking for some does, and I am excited about getting milk in the future.
