Hello from Alaska!

Hi, I am a brand new goat owner, and so far the information on this site has been so helpful. It's nice to know that I am not alone in my obsession..Lol.  I live in Chitina, Ak. This is not the end of the road but it is the end of the paved part......We are the gateway to the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.  I have four Nigerian Dwarf goats. Two does, one buck and one buckling.  The girls are naturally polled and the buck was dehorned. We also have Satin rabbits, Black Australorp chickens, two cats and an elderly Australian Shepard who deigns to live with us. Three human kids round out the gang.  Thanks for all the encouragement and information, everyone has already helped me quite a bit.

  • A bear attack! Yikes! I am so grateful that we only have to worry about coyotes. I know how your goats feel though, because after a really bad coyote attack my sheep were scared silly for awhile. I hope the bear moves on, so you don't have to deal with that again.

Milk for now, we are still making friends...We had a bear attack two weeks after they arrived and we are all recovering from that. The head doe was killed and so the goats are skittish yet. They went up the mountain for weeks so they could see from all directions. They have settled down somewhat. For that matter, I guess I have too. I jumped at every noise for weeks. The bear was almost in my lap.

  • I have had them for almost two months. We are very new friends. My daughter is charming them with raisins....I think I will try the goat treat recipe. Thanks for all the encouragement and info.
