Goats acting strange

I have never had this happen before. Was wondering if anyone recognized the symptoms. Several weeks ago it started with a young buck that would start stamping his feet and wagging his tail and run to the corner. He acted like he was annoyed. I checked him but didnt see anything. Several days later he was back to normal. Today I went out into the doe pen and noticed several of the does and some of the older kids acting the same way. They would get that look on their face and start stamping their feet. One kid was reaching back and scratching his hind leg. I checked them over because I was thinking some sort of parasite but I can find nothing. All are in good health. It is too cold here for flies. The only thing that has changed was that we had bought a couple of wild ponies three months ago. They did have ticks but we treated them for that when they first arrived. We also have chickens but there have been there for several years now. Any ideas? I'm stumped. Thanks.

  • Mostly sounds like normal goat behavior to me. Usually foot stomping is also accompanied by something that sounds like they're blowing their nose. Sometimes their behavior changes a little when the weather changes. Usually they get more frisky if we have a day that's cooler than it has been. Scratching themselves is also normal to some extent. If they're doing it non-stop, then they probably have lice, but everyone gets an itch now and then.
