goat in labor?

I have a doe that is due today or Tuesday depending on which breeding "took."

She is not acting herself. She is not eating or drinking all day. She is visibly not feeling well. She is shaking, and will not integrate with the herd. Im pretty sure she is in the early stages of labor. How long is this stage? I usually see progress by now with my other goats. She has been like this since early this morning. No "goo" yet, not being vocal, no fever, no other symptoms that are alarming.

I got tired of hanging out outside with her, so I'm now watching her on my barn cam. Should I be concerned yet?

Thanks for any advise

  • Congratulations! Glad everything turned out well!

  • OH thank goodness! Congratulations!

  • She just gave birth to quads, and the shaking stopped shortly after delivering.

I appreciate the prompt reply! I was growing very concerned.
  • I would be concerned about hypocalcemia. I don't think the shaking is a normal part of pre-labor. Here are some of the signs of it.

    The doe seems weak.
    Decrease in appetite
    Mild bloat or constipation
The doe is wobbly on her feet.
    Inability to stand.
    Muscular trembling.
    Weakened uterine contractions
    Decreased body temperature.
The doe may stop ruminating, urinating or defecating.
    Shivering after milking

You may want to phone the vet if it keeps up.
